Official domain blueprint

Listed in domain order, with the published weight and task statements for each.

Domain 1: Prompting and Task Execution

14% of the exam — Structuring instructions, examples, and constraints that hold up.

  • Create effective prompts for business and technical tasks
  • Apply task decomposition techniques to structure complex requests
  • Iterate prompts to improve output quality
  • Adapt prompting strategies based on task type (analysis, research, drafting, brainstorming)

Domain 2: Output Evaluation and Validation

21% of the exam — Judging correctness, grounding claims, and catching silent failure.

  • Evaluate Claude-generated outputs for accuracy and completeness
  • Identify hallucinations, inconsistencies, and biases in responses
  • Apply fact-checking and validation techniques
  • Determine when human review or additional verification is required
  • Edit, adapt, refine, and compare outputs for the intended audience
  • Organize and curate information and select appropriate output formats

Domain 3: Product and Model Selection

12% of the exam — Matching surface and model to latency, cost, and accuracy needs.

  • Select appropriate Claude product features (Projects, research mode, chat, artifacts)
  • Differentiate between Claude model types (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus)
  • Align model selection with task requirements (cost, speed, quality)
  • Manage context limitations and memory: when to restart, summarize, or persist

Domain 4: Workflow Integration and Solution Design

16% of the exam — Fitting Claude into real processes with clear handoffs and review points.

  • Apply Claude to analyze requirements and use cases
  • Leverage Claude for research, planning, and process optimization
  • Use Claude to support solution design, development, and iteration
  • Integrate Claude into existing workflows to augment or redesign them
  • Communicate Claude's value and limitations to stakeholders

Domain 5: Configuration and Knowledge Management

12% of the exam — Projects, context, files, and keeping shared knowledge current.

  • Configure Claude Projects with instructions and knowledge sources
  • Manage uploaded knowledge and connectors (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail)
  • Create effective system-level instructions
  • Maintain and update configurations, knowledge sources, and instructions

Domain 6: Governance, Risk, and Responsible Use

15% of the exam — Policy, data handling, disclosure, and the limits of acceptable use.

  • Identify appropriate and inappropriate use cases
  • Apply data sensitivity, regulatory, and privacy considerations
  • Follow organizational AI policies and governance standards
  • Understand the ethical implications of AI usage

Domain 7: Troubleshooting and Optimization

10% of the exam — Diagnosing weak results and improving them methodically.

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues with underperforming prompts or poor outputs
  • Adjust approach based on feedback and results
  • Optimize workflows for efficiency and effectiveness

How to prepare for CCAO-F

  1. 1. Self-assess against every objective

Work down the blueprint below and mark each published task statement as confident, shaky, or unknown. The exam writes its items directly against these objectives, so an honest self-assessment is the whole study plan in miniature.

  2. 2. Learn the item format, not just the content

Items are multiple-choice and multiple-response, and each one states how many responses to select. Every question is a realistic situation asking for the soundest judgement — practise choosing between four defensible-looking options, not reciting definitions.

  3. 3. Practise prompting hands-on

Structure prompts, decompose tasks, and iterate to improve outputs across the task types the guide names: analysis, research, drafting, and brainstorming.

  4. 4. Build a real workflow end to end

Configure a Project with instructions and knowledge sources, produce outputs, then evaluate them for accuracy, completeness, and bias. Configuration and Output Evaluation together carry a third of the exam.

  5. 5. Rehearse responsible-use judgement

Decide, quickly and repeatedly: is this data sensitive, is this an appropriate use case, and is this the point where a human must review or the work must be escalated to an Architect or Developer?

  6. 6. Practise model and feature selection out loud

For each task, justify the Claude product feature and the model tier you would pick on cost, speed, and quality, and say how you would handle context limits — restart, summarise, or persist.
